Our Legislative Committee continues to testify on proposed legislation relevant to the recycling industry. Here’s a quick update of the most recent testimonies as well as links to the recordings and MRN position statements.

Legislative chair Chaz Miller has been busy in Annapolis testifying on two separate days on the following bills: Maryland Paint Stewardship and Plastic Products – Postconsumer Recycled Content.

The 2024 Maryland General Assembly convened in January and our Legislative Team has been working for the last several months in preparation for the session. Here’s this week’s rundown:

On July 26, MRN President Kitty McIlroy testified before the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. The hearing addressed “Improving Capacity for Critical Mineral Recovery through Electronic Waste Recycling and Reuse.”

On June 18, 2024, the US EPA announced the winners of the President’s Environmental Youth Award (PEYA). This year’s list includes 29 students who worked as a team or individually on 13 projects. Among the winners are Southern Maryland students who co-founded the youth-led organization Nature Natives.

MRN members elected the incoming board at the 2024 MRN/SWANA Mid-Atlantic Conference on June 10, 2024.
